New James O’Keefe Video: Washington Post Reporter Seems to Cast Doubt on Russia Collusion Story

James O’Keefe and Project Veritas released their latest undercover video Wednesday morning, showing Washington Post national security reporter Adam Entous doubting claims of collusion between Russia and President Donald Trump’s presidential campaign.

The new video appears to have been recorded as part of an undercover investigation by Project Veritas into the Post before it was apparently foiled and exposed by Post reporters earlier this week.

Entous has been one of the Post‘s leading reporters on the Russia collusion story. In May, he published a story based on a secret audio recording of House Republican leaders in 2016, in which Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) was heard to joke, “I think Putin pays … Trump.” Entous and the Post — who refused to release the raw audio — treated the story as a major scoop, capturing what Entous claimed had been “a politically explosive assertion.”

O’Keefe’s video appears to show that Entous privately doubts the Russian collusion story — though it is not clear when the video was recorded, and it is possible that Entous changed his view of the Russia allegations over time. In October, Entous was part of the Washington Post team that revealed that Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign and the Democratic National Committee had indirectly funded Fusion GPS and the infamous Russian “dossier.” (Conservatives have cited that report frequently — often without acknowledging the Post‘s work in publishing it.)

In the Project Veritas video, Entous is shown saying:

Our reporting has not taken us to a place where I would be able to say with any confidence that the result of it is going to be the president being guilty of being in cahoots with the Russians. There’s no evidence of that that I’ve seen so far.

Frankly, there may not be anything that gets the president. It may be just lower-level people who are compromised by this. We just don’t know. It’s very hard to tell. So, we just don’t know at this point.

In terms of the actual secret arrangements where they cooperate, we haven’t seen anything that shows that yet. We’ve seen a lot of flirtation, if you will, between them, but nothing that, in my opinion, would rank as actual collusion. Now, that doesn’t mean that it doesn’t exist, it just means we haven’t found it yet. Or it may mean it doesn’t exist.

I mean, it’s a f*cking crap shoot. I literally have no prediction whatsoever as to what would happen, and I do all the stuff for the Post on this … so I honestly would tell you, I have no idea.

In narrating the video, O’Keefe points out that numerous editorials and opinion articles in the Post have presumed that the allegations of Russian collusion are true. “Why doesn’t the editorial page reflect what the news people actually report?” O’Keefe asks, charging that the paper is biased. The video also shows footage of a woman identified as a Washington Post news executive saying that she hopes Trump is not re-elected.

Brown University Will Allow Students to ‘Self-Identify’ as a Person of Color

Brown University has announced a change to their application process that will allow applicants to “self-identify” as a person of color.

According to The College Fix, the policy is the result of complaints made by Asian-American and international students that they aren’t yet categorized as members of historically underrepresented groups. Historically, Brown has restricted minority status to “American Indian, Alaskan Native, African American, Hispanic or Latinx and Native Hawaiian and/or Pacific Islander” students.

“Duncan acknowledged that while the University’s classification system did result in international and Asian American students not receiving these invitations, she said that the graduate school will change its application for the upcoming admissions cycle to allow students to self-identify as a student of color,” an article in the Brown Daily Herald read.

One graduate student told the Herald that Brown’s decision to limit minority status to only a select group made certain students feel invisible.

“The University does not classify international students as students of color and Asian American students as HUGs: These decisions have led to “institutional invisibility,” Kelow-Bennett said, adding that such lapses caused some students to not receive invitations to certain events, such as a multicultural student dinner,” the report read.

Although the program is primarily designed for the purposes of allowing students outside of the groups traditionally designated by Brown to be underrepresented to be included, the College Fix suggests that, under the new system, any student will be able to “self-identify” as a person of color.

When asked, Brown University refused to explain how minority status affects admissions decisions. The College Fix reached out to Marlina Duncan, the dean of diversity initiatives at Brown about the impact of minority status on admission, but she did not respond to the outlet’s inquiry. Several other members of the Brown University administration refused to directly answer questions on the impact of minority status on admission.

Sexual harassment standard different for Congress, SC’s Clyburn suggests

U.S. Rep. Jim Clyburn could find himself in hot water.

A flippant response the Columbia Democrat made to reporters while walking in the Capitol is drawing the ire of many.

When asked about sexual harassment allegations against colleague Rep. John Conyers (D-Mich.), Clyburn seemed to suggest elected officials should be held to a different standard than other public figures.

In a video posted on Twitter, the 77-year-old Clyburn is walking to an elevator with Congressional Black Caucus chairman Cedric Richmond (D-La.), when asked “Other men in other industries have faced similar accusations … and gotten out of the way, resign, stepped down, far faster than he has, right … Harvey Weinstein, Charlie Rose, Matt Lauer?”

That was followed by another question, “So it’s different because he’s elected,” but the elevator doors closed before Clyburn might have responded.

Many comments critical of Clyburn have been posted on social media. Among them, people are questioning his logic, asking him to resign – in delicate and powerful terms – and calling him a poor representative of South Carolina.

A writer for The New York Times Magazine and National Geographic tweeted that Clyburn invoked the name of Susan Smith, South Carolina’s infamous child murderer, in his defense of Conyers.

“James Clyburn compared Conyers’ accusers to the child murderer Susan Smith, who initially claimed a black man had abducted her kids. Clyburn said, these are all white women who’ve made these charges against Conyers,” Robert Draper tweeted.

When asked if that comment was true, Draper said he verified it through two sources, adding “Clyburn has used the Susan Smith parallel more than once, to members & staffers.”

This isn’t the first time Clyburn has opened himself up to criticism on the issue of Conyers.
On Nov. 21, the assistant Democratic leader, the third-ranking Democrat in the U.S. House told The New York Times he was unsure whether the claims against Conyers “have any real substance.”

“You can’t jump to conclusions with these type of things,” Clyburn told The New York Times. “For all I know, all of this could be made up.”

The following day, Nov. 22, Clyburn had a somewhat different on Twitter.

Clyburn tweeted that any claims of sexual harassment are very serious and can’t be tolerated.

“The allegations against Congressman John Conyers are very disturbing, and I am aware he has emphatically denied them,” Clyburn wrote. “The House Ethics Committee should conduct a prompt, deliberate and thorough investigation.”

Should Clyburn’s followers on social media expect another response, differing from his curt comment at the elevator, on Thursday?

Clyburn might not be in the minority among his peers on this issue.

The Democratic caucus held a meeting Wednesday morning, and according to a post on Twitter, Rep. Linda Sanchez complained that elected members of Congress shouldn’t “be held to a higher standard” than others when it comes to sexual harassment.

Conyers, the longest serving member of the U.S. House, is currently being investigated by the U.S. House Ethics Committee after BuzzFeed News first reported the 88-year-oldrepresentative settled a wrongful termination complaint in 2015 by a staffer who accused him of sexual harassment.

Conyers has denied the allegations and resisted calls for his resignation, but stepped down from his role as the ranking Democrat on the House Judiciary Committee.

On Monday, Clyburn asserted he isn’t planning on retiring after 25 years on the job. He said he will seek re-election next year as the incumbent in the South Carolina’s 6th District congressional seat.

“My health is good. I feel fine,” Clyburn said, adding, “I don’t think I’ve detected any angst with the voting public about my service.”

CHICAGO (CBS) — Just days after he was served with a court order barring him from coming near his father, Cook County prosecutors said  murdered the 61-year-old and mutilated the body in the basement of the older man’s West Pullman home.

He then allegedly posted several selfies on Facebook, the Chicago Sun-Times is reporting.

Led into court in shackles and white, jail-issued coveralls, the 26-year-old Edmondson muttered and ranted during a bond hearing Tuesday at the Leighton Criminal Courthouse.

When Assistant State’s Attorney Julia Ramirez said that Edmondson was facing a single count of first-degree murder, in addition to pending charges for violating the order of protection taken out by his father on Nov. 20, Edmondson shouted.

“The order of protection is gone,” he said, smiling. “He is no longer living.”

Edmondson laughed softly to himself as Ramirez described how Carl Edmondson’s body was found Saturday at the bottom of the basement stairs of his home in the 11500 block of South Bishop – the skull crushed and blood and brain matter splattered on the floor and walls.

Carlton Edmondson shook his head and seemed to chuckle when Ramirez added that Carl Edmondson’s penis had been cut off.

The outbursts prompted Judge Stephanie Miller to order Carlton Edmondson out of the courtroom even before she ruled that he be held without bond.

Police went to the elder Edmondson’s house on the weekend after Carlton Edmondson’s uncle reported that he had stopped by and seen Carlton Edmondson inside the house, and knew that he not supposed to be there.

Carlton Edmondson answered the door when police arrived, and when asked the whereabouts of his father, said the older man was “at the hospital,” Ramirez said.

Police took Carlton Edmondson into custody, and found the body beside a Bowie knife, circular saw, and a “concrete capstone,” Ramirez said. The body smelled of gasoline, and a gas can lay nearby, Ramirez said. Inside the house, investigators found a black jacket that appeared to be the one Carlton Edmondson was wearing in pictures he posted to Facebook on Saturday.

In the photos, Carlton Edmondson holds a cigarette and grins at the camera, with what looks like blood spatter against the white logos on the jacket.

Using the odd punctuation and spelling Carlton Edmondson used for most of his posts, one photo is captioned “EyEm OAWn mA pEriOd #beebop #silenceofthelambs #gdshit #chevezwhatupfolkz.” A post from around 7 a.m. reads “EyE sIlEnCed thE LahmeDs.”

Edmondson’s Facebook profile lists his profession as “singer/songwriter.”

The Cook County Medical Examiner’s office ruled that the elder Edmondson died of multiple injuries from assault.

Five days earlier, Carlton Edmondson was arrested for throwing a brick through the window of his father’s house, and was released on a recognizance bond from the police station.

Court records indicate Carlton Edmondson had been arrested six times since September on a variety of misdemeanor charges, including refusing to give his name to police officers who saw him drinking on a street corner; stealing a pair of $16 sunglasses from a South Side Target and snatching a 70-year-old woman’s cell phone as she bought lottery tickets at a convenience store.

In 2015, he was arrested for flashing his penis at police officers in the Loop, and also for refusing to leave a downtown 7-Eleven store.

Carlton Edmondson’s father’s first sought an order of protection from his son in August. He subsequently made another request for the order in October.

The order of protection barred Carlton Edmondson from having contact with his father or coming to his house. The younger Edmondson was served with a copy of the order when he was arrested, Ramirez said.

“Not guilty!” Carlton Edmondson yelled. “It wasn’t me. It wasn’t his jacket.”

Assistant Public Defender Kevin Ochalla told Miller that Carlton Edmondson was a graduate of Morgan Park High School and had attended Southern Illinois University in Carbondale.

When Ochalla asked that Carlton Edmondson be evaluated at the jail hospital, he shouted again.

“He got my death-body, G!” he said, pointing a finger at Ochalla. “I’ma kill him.”

US President Donald Trump was ‘wrong’ to share anti-Muslim videos posted by a far-right UK group, Downing Street said today.

Furious MPs insisted Mr Trump was ‘not welcome here’ following the Twitter posts but No 10 said his invite to come to Britain on a state visit still stands.

The storm over the posts – first shared by Britain First’s deputy leader – deepened as the widow of murdered MP Jo Cox accused him of ‘spreading hatred’.

The furious backlash came after the 71-year-old President retweeted content posted by Britain First’s Jayda Fransen.

Labour politician Mrs Cox was stabbed and shot outside her constituency office in Birstall, West Yorkshire, in June 2016 by a man who shouted ‘Britain First’.

The first video retweeted by Mr Trump was claimed to show a ‘Muslim migrant’ beating up a Dutch boy on crutches.

But Dutch media this afternoon said the video was ‘fake news’. The video features a born and raised Dutch man and no reports have detailed the suspect’s religion.

Mr Trump also retweeted a video of a Muslim man ‘destroy(ing) a statue of Virgin Mary’, and another where Ms Fransen wrote: ‘Islamist mob pushed teenage boy off roof and beats him to death!’ The provenance of the footage is unknown.

The row casts fresh doubt on the prospects for Mr Trump’s state visit, which has been repeatedly pushed back since Prime Minister Theresa May extended the invite in January.

Speaker John Bercow has already made clear he would block the President from getting the honour of addressing both Houses of Parliament if he does come.

The Prime Minister’s official spokesman said Britain First sought to divide communities through its use of ‘hateful narratives which peddle lies and stoke tensions’.

‘It is wrong for the president to have done this,’ the spokesman said.

Despite the slapdown, Mrs May’s spokesman made clear that the controversial invitation for the president to make a state visit to the UK, made when Theresa May met Mr Trump in Washington in January, still stood.

‘The invitation for a state visit has been extended and accepted. Further details will be announced in due course,’ the spokesman said.

The spokesman said that Britain First ’cause anxiety to law-abiding people’, adding that: ‘British people overwhelmingly reject the prejudiced rhetoric of the far-right which is the antithesis of the values that this country represents – decency tolerance and respect.’

There have been claims Mr Trump has been dragging his heels on agreeing a date because he does not want to face protests – after more than 1.8million people signed a petition demanding the visit be cancelled.

Mrs May did not take PMQs in the Commons today because she is on a trip to the Middle East, but Downing Street said it would respond later.

Brendan Cox, the husband of Mrs Cox, who was killed during the EU referendum campaign last year, said: ‘Trump has legitimised the far right in his own country, now he’s trying to do it in ours.

‘Spreading hatred has consequences and the President should be ashamed of himself.’

Labour MP Mary Creagh posted: ‘Jo Cox’s killer shouted ‘Britain First’. (Trump) retweeting this hate criminal demeans his office. He is not welcome here.’

London Mayor Sadiq Khan, who was embroiled in a spat with Mr Trump last year over his call for a travel ban on mainly-Muslim countries, said: ‘Britain First is a vile, hate-fuelled organisation whose views should be condemned, not amplified.’

Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn also urged Mrs May to take a tough stance against the President.

‘I hope our Government will condemn far-right retweets by Donald Trump. They are abhorrent, dangerous and a threat to our society,’ he said.

Labour MP Chuka Umunna told Sky News: ‘I don’t think the president of the United States, a president who has not only promoted bigotry, misogyny and racism in his own country, I don’t think he is welcome here.

‘I think the invite that has been made to him to come to our country in early 2018 should be withdrawn.

‘What we see here is the president retweeting and promoting the propaganda of a far right racist bigoted group members of which have been arrested and convicted for promoting hatred in this country.

‘I am absolutely astounded that a man – any person – in his position holding the office that he does should be promoting the propaganda of a far right British group.’

A tweet from Fransen’s account, which is verified by Twitter, appeared to celebrate the retweets by Mr Trump.

It said: ‘THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES, DONALD TRUMP, HAS RETWEETED THREE OF DEPUTY LEADER JAYDA FRANSEN’S TWITTER VIDEOS! DONALD TRUMP HIMSELF HAS RETWEETED THESE VIDEOS AND HAS AROUND 44 MILLION FOLLOWERS! GOD BLESS YOU TRUMP! GOD BLESS AMERICA!’

Britain First leader Paul Golding said: ‘We’ve never spoken to him (Trump) before. But the fact he’s shared his alarm at Jayda’s arrest means we’re going to reach out to him. Jayda is recording a video message directly to him later.

‘We’re looking forward to all the new followers and support we’ll get from Trump’s publicity.’

Last year, Ms Fransen was found guilty of religiously aggravated harassment after accosting a Muslim woman.

The charge stemmed from a January 2016 incident in which Fransen, wearing a political uniform and during a so-called ‘Christian patrol,’ accosted a Muslim woman named Sumayyah Sharpe in Luton, England.

Ms Fransen admitted that she told Sharpe, who was wearing hijab, that Muslim men force women to cover up to avoid rape ‘because they cannot control their sexual urges.’

‘That’s why they are coming into my country raping women across the continent,’ Fransen told Sharpe, according to the Independent. Ms Sharpe was in front of her four children at the time.

Ms Fransen, and Britain First leader Paul Golding, 35, also of Penge, are due to appear at Folkestone Magistrates’ Court today for a pre-trial review over allegations of religiously aggravated abuse in Canterbury and Ramsgate, Kent.

A trial is scheduled for January 29, the Crown Prosecution Service said.

She will also appear in court in Northern Ireland in December charged with using threatening and abusive language in connection with a speech she made at an anti-terrorism demonstration in Belfast on August 6.

Home Secretary Amber Rudd did not immediately respond in the House of Commons when Labour MPs Stephen Doughty and Yvette Cooper raised Mr Trump’s retweets as a point of order.

Mr Doughty said the videos were ‘highly inflammatory’ and Ms Cooper said the president had given Fransen a ‘huge platform’ as one MP shouted ‘Disgraceful’ and others said ‘Go on, stand up’ at Ms Rudd.

Brexit minister Lord Callanan said Mr Trump may have not been aware of the ‘appalling’ nature of Britain First, but said the incident showed the president should be ‘more careful’ in his tweeting.

The Conservative peer told BBC Radio 4’s World At One: ‘Britain First is an appalling organisation and there is no excusing the things they stand for.

‘I can only assume that he has made a mistake and that he did not realise who Britain First were.  Most people in the UK don’t know who Britain First are.

‘I’m not excusing it. He clearly needs to be more careful what he tweets to 44 million followers.  This is manna from heaven for them.

‘We are doing exactly what they want in publicising them and giving coverage to their awful views, and Trump has helped them in that.’

Britain First previously denied any involvement in the attack on Mrs Cox, and there is no suggestion that Mair was influenced by or in any way involved with the group.
