Inspector General Finds Obama Paid $300 Million to Afghans That Don’t Exist

 

In an recent interview with Sharyl Attkinson, special inspector general for Afghanistan reconstruction, John Sopko revealed that during Obama’s presidency, millions of  U.S. taxpayer dollars were wasted for salaries of soldiers who actually didn’t exist.

The special inspector general Sopko explained:

“We’ve been raising this concern about ghosts going back a number of years. Actually I want to say we heard about it from (Afghan President) Ashraf Ghani years ago, before he became president, he warned me about ‘ghosts,’ so we started looking three years ago. What we’re talking about are policemen, Afghan policemen, Afghan military, Afghan civil servants who don’t exist or they have multiple identity cards and we’re paying their salaries. By ‘we’ I mean the United States and the international community. And we started finding out that we had no capacity to measure the number of soldiers, teachers, doctors, military people who we are paying their salaries.”

Sopko tried to warn authorities about this since 2016. In an letter he sent to the Pentagon, he wrote:

“In January 2015 we reported that more than $300 million in annual, U.S.-funded salary payments to the Afghan National Police were based on only partially verified or reconciled data, and that there was no assurance that personnel and payroll data were accurate. We found similar deficiencies during the course of our April 2015 audit of Afghan National Army personnel and payroll data.”

Additionally, Sopko said that it was even more than fraud:

“Major fraud. And what’s happening is the commanders or generals or other higher officials are actually pocketing the salaries of the ghosts. And I remember President Ghani again, at that time he wasn’t president, saying, ‘John, you the United States government are paying the salary of an Afghan who’s a teacher, he’s a civil servant, he’s a doctor, he is a policeman, and he’s a soldier. And it’s the same Afghan. And he doesn’t exist.’”

Attkinsson noted that the Pentagon is implementing a biometric system that will check fingerprints, photos, and even blood type in order to get rid of ‘ghosts,’ reports Founding Patriot.

Civil Rights activist Rev. Jesse Jackson said this week that the Electoral College “must come down,” and warned that President Trump may have trouble making it into Heaven because of his views on immigrants.

Jackson said that Trump demands people “speak English, be qualified and have a job skill,” the Daily Wire reported.

“Jesus would not qualify to come in Trump’s country, he would not qualify to get into Jesus’ kingdom,” Jackson said, going on to quote the Book of Matthew’s passage about helping the underprivileged.

He also called for reminders of the Confederacy to be removed from public view, adding that “the statues must come down.”

“The electoral college must come down,” Jackson added, saying it interferes with the ability for one man to have one vote in a democracy.

In the late 1990s, Jackson praised then-businessman Donald Trump on multiple occasions.

Report: Google ‘Coming After Critics’ in Academia and Journalism, ‘Forming Into a Government of Itself’

Google is “coming after critics in academia and journalism,” according to the Washington Post, who added that the company “is forming into a government of itself.”

“Google has established a pattern of lobbying and threatening to acquire power. It has reached a dangerous point common to many monarchs: The moment where it no longer wants to allow dissent,” claimed Zephyr Teachout, an academic, activist, and former Democratic political candidate in an article for the Washington Post.

Referencing the news this week that members of the Open Markets team she was part of at the Google-funded New America Foundation think tank had been kicked out after they praised the European Union’s decision to fine Google for violating anti-trust regulations, Teachout highlighted the irony of Google’s former slogan “Don’t be evil,” adding, “It appears that Google may have lost sight of what being evil means, in the way that most monarchs do: Once you reach a pinnacle of power, you start to believe that any threats to your authority are themselves villainous and that you are entitled to shut down dissent.”

“Google is forming into a government of itself, and it seems incapable of even seeing its own overreach. We, as citizens, must respond in two ways,” proclaimed Teachout. “First, support the brave researchers and journalists who stand up to overreaching power; and second, support traditional antimonopoly laws that will allow us to have great, innovative companies — but not allow them to govern us.”

Teachout also wrote an article for the Intercept this week, where she explained, “In 2010, while I was pushing to break up big banks because they had become too powerful, I started to realize that the problem in America wasn’t just big banks, it was corporate monopolies.”

In the article, Teachout also announced she will be “the board chair of a new organization, comprised of the same team [kicked out of New America], doing the same work.”

“We will be launching in the fall, and I am helping to create a new digital campaign, Citizens Against Monopoly, to help channel the tremendous public concern that we know exists around monopoly power,” she concluded. “Google’s actions make it more important than ever that we stand up to fight monopolies. At the end of the day, this is about freedom.”

Racial Sparks Fly At Ole Miss When Student Dropped Banana Peel

Bananas are racist, damit!

There is a raging controversy within the University of Mississippi’s Greek Life community regarding race relations and bananas.

A Greek Life leader accidentally sparked mass hysteria after he placed a banana peel on a tree in the woods — because he could not find a trash can.

The Daily Mississippian reports that three black students found the banana peel — and were apparently triggered by what they saw.

“To be clear, many members of our community were hurt, frightened, and upset,” the interim director of fraternity and sorority life wrote in a letter obtained by the newspaper.

The president of one sorority told the newspaper that “bananas have historically been used to demean black people.”

I always thought bananas were historically used to make banana pudding.

It’s unclear how many were triggered by the banana peel – but the fear and trepidation was so great that a meeting was convened at the campground. The Daily Mississippian described what happened:

“The massive discussion session wrapped up as more and more students stood and left the room – some in tears, some in frustration. NPHC members began texting friends to come and pick them up from the camp since no one had been allowed to drive his or her car up to the retreat. The remainder of the retreat was canceled later that night,” the newspaper reported.

It sounds as if terrified Ole Miss students were stampeding through the woods weeping and wailing as they sought psychological refuge from the banana peel.

An Ole Miss spokesman confirmed there was some sort of incident.

“We are aware of the situation and are working to address it through appropriate channels,” the spokesman told me. “Since we became aware of what occurred at the fraternity and sorority community’s retreat, UM staff acted quickly in an effort to engage in discussion with students.”

Does that mean Ole Miss will ban racially-offensive fruit and vegetables from campus dining halls? Has there been a call to banish banana nut bread or ice cream sundaes or heaven forbid – banana pudding?

The young man who discarded the banana peel – profusely apologized and said he meant no harm – but I doubt it’s going to make much difference.

“I want to sincerely apologize for the events that took place this past weekend,” the student wrote in a letter to the newspaper. “Although unintentional, there is no excuse for the pain that was caused to members of our community.”In retrospect – the young man would have been better off just tossing the peel on the ground. It’s better to be a litterbug than to be falsely accused of being a racist.

I imagine the only thing that could have possibly been more offensive — would have been eating the banana while watching Gone with the Wind.

Keyshawn Johnson Pulls Son Off Nebraska Team & Teaches Him How To Be A Man of Character

Teaching his son how to be a man of character. Kudos, Keyshawn.

Parents and sports usually do not mix.  This story is an exception to that rule.

In 2017 parents often confuse “what’s best for their kid” as “defending them no matter what.”  The sports world’s most popular parent, LaVar Ball, first hit the spotlight for berating a coach for not giving Lonzo more touches.  That type of parent is seen as the norm, but the world still has plenty of parents who believe in discipline.

Former No. 1 NFL draft pick and current ESPN analyst Keyshawn Johnson, pulled his son Keyshawn Jr. out of the University of Nebraska to take “an extended leave of absence.”

The four-star wide receiver came to Nebraska a semester early, but struggled during spring ball, making just one catch for seven yards in the spring game.  His struggles off the field were worse.  It culminated with a marijuana possession citation in his dorm room.  Less than two weeks later, Keyshawn Sr. made his son return home to California.

“One thing you will not do as my son is you will not embarrass Nebraska, you will not embarrass Mike Riley and you will not embarrass this family,” the elder Johnson told the Omaha World-Herald. “If you mature and you’re ready to resume your football career and academic goals, then Nebraska will be ready to embrace you.”

Some parents might defend their kid, deflect the blame or ask for a second chance.  Not Keyshawn.  He dropped the hammer.

But wait, there’s more.  When Johnson Sr. was asked what Jr. thought about the move, he said:

“I never asked him,” Johnson Sr. said. “At the end of the day, I don’t think that decision was in his hands. He squandered that decision. He still wants to play football, and he still wants to play for Nebraska. But if you don’t do the things you’re supposed to do, under the guidelines of me, it’s not going to happen.”

The option to pull his son out of school with the ability to return isn’t an option all parents have, but Johnson Sr. played for Mike Riley at USC.  Their longstanding relationship established enough trust from both parties, even though the younger Johnson thought it might give him more leniency.

“You’ve watched — on Instagram, on Facebook, on Twitter — everything’s a big party,” Johnson Sr. said. “You just want to get to college to party, but you don’t understand: You’re playing college football. It’s a business. And it’s a serious business. If you want to become successful — make it to the NFL — you’ve got to embrace it. You’ve got to own it. You don’t make it to the next level by cruising. There’s no cruise control.

“There’s no ‘Mike Riley is good friends with Keyshawn, so his son’s automatically going to play.’ That’s not the game. That’s not why he went to Nebraska. He went there to work his tail off. To have an opportunity to be successful. But when you don’t do that — and you squander that — what are you going to do?”

As a 25-year old, normally I don’t cater to the “back in my day was better” folks, but the world needs more discipline like this.  All too often parents do not force children to take responsibility for their actions.  It may briefly benefit the child, but it does nothing but cause harm in the long run.

Keyshawn Johnson Sr. is holding his son accountable for his actions, a lesson a few parents should learn sooner rather than later.

Mexican Bakers Trapped In Bakery Make Bread for Harvey Victims

Mexican bakers make pan dulce for hundreds of Harvey victims after becoming trapped by floods

The four workers used nearly 2,000 kilogrammes of flour and baked day and night

Four bakers who became trapped in their bakery for two days in the wake of Hurricane Harvey made hundreds of loaves of bread to give to flood victims.

The workers from the El Bolillo Bakery in Houston, Texas, used up nearly 2,000kg of flour to bake bread and pan dulce, Mexican sweet bread, throughout the night and day after they were left stranded by the floods over the weekend.

The four bakers had been working on a late shift when they realised they could not leave the shop because of the level of water on the streets.

To take their minds off worrying about their family and friends, they decided to continue to bake for those affected by the devastating downpours.

The Mexican bakery, which specialises in Mexican cakes and patisseries, had remained dry and had not been cut off from electricity so the bakers were able to work throughout the night and the following day.

Brian Alvarado, the manager of the shop on South Wayside Drive, told TheIndependent: “When they realised they were stuck, they decided to keep themselves busy and help the community and made as many loaves of bread as they could.

“By the time the owner managed to get to them, they had made so much bread that we took the loaves to loads of emergency centres across the city for people affected by the floods.

“We didn’t count exactly how many loaves they made, but they used 4,400 pounds [1,996kg] of flour.”

Although one of the bakers experienced some damage to his home because of the floods, the others returned to dry properties, Mr Alvarado said.

Thousands of people reacted to the baker’s “heartwarming” feat on social media, hailing the bakers as “heroes” and praising their “big hearts” and “great community service”.

Writing on Facebook, Debby Goforth said: “Hats off to you. What an inspiration you guys are!”

Eddie Gurbisz added: “Awesome job guys! Can’t say enough good things about what you’ve done for the people of Houston! Much love and respect.”
