Islamabad, Pakistan (CNN) — Pakistani authorities have started legal proceedings against the widows of former al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden for allegedly entering Pakistan illegally and alleged forgery, Pakistan’s interior minister told reporters Thursday.

The widows are in the custody of Pakistani authorities, Minister Rehman Malik said.

Last year, Pakistan told U.S. officials that three wives of bin Laden, who was killed in Pakistan by U.S. forces last year, were living in the country.

Malik said two of bin Laden’s widows have been detained. The status of the third widow, who authorities reported last year was also residing in Pakistan, was not immediately clear Thursday.

“Their entry into Pakistan was illegal,” Malik said. “They also did not inform the authorities that they were living here.

“And there were many other incidents where deception and forgery was committed,” Malik told reporters.

The widows have already been presented in court and are now in custody, the minister added.

“The most important thing is that the women are kept in a proper manner, and keeping this in mind they have been kept in a proper house which has been declared a sub-jail,” Malik said.

Pakistan’s Federal Investigation Agency initiated the proceedings against the widows three days ago.

“They can have their own lawyers, and they will have the whole liberty to defend themselves in the court,” Malik said.

The children of the widows aren’t included in the proceedings and are free to live the country, he explained.

“There is no case on the children. Only the adult family members, who knew the law and who abetted Osama, have had a case registered against them,” Malik said.

“A five-bedroom house has been given to them, so the children feel they are in their own home and have been given every type of facility, food and shelter, as though it were their own home,” he added.

The Los Angeles County coroner’s office said it is awaiting
the results of toxicology tests before releasing an official cause of death for
conservative author and activist Andrew Breitbart, who died unexpectedly
Thursday at age 43.

A source familiar with the investigation told The Times the
tests are routine in a death of someone so young.

An autopsy was
completed Friday, and the tests are expected to take several weeks.

“It’s standard procedure,” coroner’s spokesman
Craig Harvey told Reuters. “We have a very young man who died suddenly and
unexpectedly, so we want to make sure we cover all the bases.”

The source, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because
the case was still under investigation, said officials are working on the
assumption that Breitbart died of natural causes. A witness saw him collapse
while walking near his home and said that he had no external injuries, the
source said. Paramedics rushed Breitbart to Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center,
where doctors pronounced him dead.

“It looks like a heart attack, but no one knows until
“an autopsy is done, Breitbart’s father-in-law, actor Orson Bean, told The
Times.

“He was walking near the house somewhere…. He was
taken by paramedics to UCLA, and they couldn’t revive him,” Bean said.
“We’re devastated. I loved him like a son.”

Breitbart is survived by his wife, Susannah; four children;
his parents; and a sister. The family has not announced memorial arrangements.

Sources said officials will also try to determine whether
Breitbart had any underlying health problems that could have contributed to his
death, a common tack in such cases.

Breitbart was a Hollywood-criticizing,
mainstream-media-loathing conservative and shot to stardom with two stories in
recent years: breaking the story over sexually charged tweets by former Rep.
Anthony Weiner of New York, a scandal that led to his resignation; and posting
a video of Shirley Sherrod, an employee of the U.S. Department of Agriculture,
in which she appeared to make racially charged comments, leading to her firing
and then a subsequent apology by the Obama administration when it was later revealed
that the video had been heavily edited and her comments portrayed out of
context.

Sherrod released a statement saying: “My prayers go out
to Mr. Breitbart’s family as they cope during this very difficult time. I do
not intend to make any further comments.”

Breitbart spent his early professional years helping to edit
the Drudge Report and later helped launch the Huffington Post. In 2005, he
started his news aggregation site Breitbart.com, which was designed to counter
what he described as the “bully media cabal” that he said ignores
stories at odds with prevailing liberal orthodoxy. His goal, he often said, was
to “destroy the institutional left.”

His big splash came
in 2009, when he posted an undercover video in which a pair of conservative activists
posing as a prostitute and her boyfriend asked employees of the community group
ACORN for help with a brothel that would house underage Salvadorans. ACORN was
embarrassed when some of its workers seemed too helpful; Congress responded by
defunding the organization.

Breitbart’s
mother-in-law, Alison Mills Bean, called him “one of the most genuine
people I’ve met in my life…. He always spoke the truth of his heart, and no
matter what people agreed or disagreed with him he never wavered.

“And he was loved by a lot of people,” she said.
“And I know a lot of people found fault with his points of view … but
everyone loved him. It is a great loss for everybody.”There was no
stopping Andrew Breitbart from fighting the good fight with every fiber of his
soul,” Rep. Thaddeus McCotter (R-Mich.) said in Congress. “Goodbye
and God bless, Brother Andrew. You are loved and mourned and ever
remembered.”

Breitbart lived with
his family in Westwood. He had been adopted by moderately conservative Jewish
parents and attended two of L.A.’s most exclusive private schools — Carlthorp
and Brentwood.

His father, Gerald,
owned Fox and Hounds, a landmark Tudor-style Santa Monica restaurant that later
became the punk rock club Madame Wong’s West. His mother, Arlene, was an
executive at Bank of America in Beverly Hills and downtown L.A.

WASHINGTON (AP) – President Barack Obama says vehicle fuel
economy standards set under his administration and better cars built by a
resurgent U.S. auto industry will save money at the gas pump over the long
term, a counterpoint to Republican criticism of his energy policy.

In his weekly radio and online address Saturday, Obama said
Detroit automakers are on track to build cars that average nearly 55 miles per
gallon by 2025, doubling current mileage standards.

“That means folks will be able to fill up every two
weeks instead of every week, saving the typical family more than $8,000 at the
pump over time,” he said. “That’s a big deal, especially as families
are yet again feeling the pinch from rising gas prices.”

During the past several weeks, Obama has been eager to
appear aggressive in the face of rising gasoline prices even as he reminds
audiences that there is no simple, immediate solution that will reverse the
current spike in prices.

“What’s happening in Detroit will make a difference.
But it won’t solve everything,” Obama said. “There’s no silver bullet
for avoiding spikes in gas prices every year.”

 

By drawing attention to the auto industry, Obama looked to
highlight both his efforts to improve fuel efficiency as well as his role in
helping rescue General Motors and Chrysler. He also reiterated his call to end
oil and gas company tax breaks and government subsidies that average about $4
billion a year.

 

Rising oil prices have become a concern at the White House,
where Obama aides worry they could hurt an economic recovery that has been
improving and also harm the president’s re-election prospects.

 

Oil prices typical rise in the spring, but they have spiked
to heights unseen at this this time of year, hastened by increased tensions
over Iran’s nuclear program. Gasoline prices reached $3.74 a gallon on Friday,
a record at this point in the calendar but still shy of the high point of $4.11
hit in July 2008.

 

In Saturday’s Republican address, Rep. Doc Hastings of
Washington said a meeting this week among Obama and House and Senate leaders
from both parties “provided a glimmer of new hope that the president and
the Democratic-controlled Senate may finally act on some bipartisan energy
bills” already passed by the Republican-controlled House.

Still, Hastings, the chairman of the House Natural Resources
Committee, faulted Obama for not doing more to increase domestic oil and gas
production, for opposing drilling on the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, for
blocking a Canada-to-Texas oil pipeline and for imposing regulations on energy
producers.

“The president, who campaigned on a promise to address
rising gas prices, now talks as if they’re largely beyond his control,”
Hastings said.

Obama wants Israel to show Diplomacy while Iran is attempting to kill them

President Obama urged Israel and its most ardent American
supporters Sunday to refrain from bellicose rhetoric toward Iran and to allow
time for stiff economic sanctions to work against the Islamic republic’s
nuclear ambitions.

As threats of an Israeli strike against Iran’s nuclear
program increase, Obama argued that a military operation now would only
strengthen Iran’s fragile diplomatic position and would fail to end its uranium
enrichment program permanently.

The GOP Presidential nominees are all gearing up for Super

Acknowledging that Iran’s clerical leadership may not
respond to economic pressure, Obama assured the large audience of concerned
Israeli supporters that he is willing to use “all elements of American power”
to prevent the Islamic republic from developing a nuclear weapon. But, he said,
diplomacy must first be allowed to run its course.

“For the sake of Israel’s security, America’s security, and
the peace and security of the world, now is not the time for bluster,” Obama
told the annual policy conference of the American Israel Public Affairs
Committee, or AIPAC, a powerful lobbying group. “Now is the time to let our
increased pressure sink in, and to sustain the broad international coalition
that we have built.”

Obama’s public argument for patience stands as a likely
preview of the message he will deliver privately Monday when he meets with
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House.

In a statement following Obama’s remarks, Netanyahu said he
“very much appreciated” the president’s “position that Iran must not be allowed
to develop nuclear weapons and that all options are on the table.”

He added: “Perhaps most important of all, I appreciated the
fact that he said that Israel must be able to defend itself, by itself, against
any threat.”

Obama’s AIPAC speech begins a critical week for his
diplomacy to contain Iran’s nuclear ambitions and assure Israel, America’s
closest ally in the Middle East, that he can be trusted to act in its security
interests.

Israel has concluded that Iran’s leadership has decided to
pursue a nuclear weapon, and international inspectors have uncovered evidence
to suggest a military intent for a program that Iran claims is meant only for
civilian power purposes.

The Obama administration is not convinced that Iran’s
leaders have decided to develop a weapon, although U.S. diplomats have worked
with European allies to implement oil and banking sanctions against Iran until
it gives up its uranium enrichment program.

Those sanctions will take full effect this summer, and
administration officials have said that their intent, in part, is to foment
public unrest inside Iran that may force the country’s leadership to rethink
the value of its nuclear program.

Obama is managing the Iranian nuclear issue during an
election year when his Republican rivals have called his leadership abroad weak
and his support for Israel suspect. He is also facing the political threat
posed by rising gasoline prices, which analysts say could skyrocket if war
breaks out between Israel and Iran in the oil-rich Persian Gulf region.

Georgetown University officials have released a statement defending law student  Sandra Fluke, calling Rush Limbaugh’s attacks “misogynistic” and Fluke “a model of civil discourse.” And President Obama has called to thank her for “speaking out about the concerns of American women,” according to Fluke. The Georgetown law student derided as a “slut” and “prostitute” by Rush Limbaugh for her support of women’s access to birth control spoke out against the conservative talk show host Friday morning.

Appearing on NBC’s “Today,” Sandra Fluke said she was
“stunned” and “outraged” by Limbaugh’s comments, which she deemed “an attempt
to silence me, to silence all of us from speaking about the healthcare we
need.”

Fluke, a third-year law student, testified about
Georgetown’s policy on contraception during an unofficial hearing last Thursday
that was led by House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.). She argued that
birth control should be covered by health insurance at religious institutions.

Pelosi arranged for
Fluke to testify after she was excluded from an official congressional hearing
on the contraceptive mandate in the nation’s health-care law. Republicans who
ran the hearing said Fluke’s name was submitted too late (Democrats disagree).
None of the women who testified at the congressional hearing spoke in favor of
the mandate.

At Pelosi’s hearing, Fluke said her fellow students at
Georgetown, a Jesuit university, pay as much as $1,000 a year for birth control
because campus health plans do not include coverage of contraceptives for
women.

“What does that make her?” Limbaugh said on his show
Wednesday night. “It makes her a slut, right? It makes her a prostitute.”

“She wants to be paid
to have sex,” Limbaugh continued. “She’s having so much sex she can’t afford
the contraception.”

On Thursday, Limbaugh expanded on his thoughts but offered
no apology. Referring to controversial remarks by Foster Friess, a supporter of
former senator Rick Santorum, Limbaugh said, “I will buy all of the women at
Georgetown University as much aspirin to put between their knees as they want.”

That afternoon, there
were reports of a bomb threat at Limbaugh’s South Florida home, but an
investigation revealed that the suspicious package was not dangerous and
unrelated to Limbaugh’s remarks.

According to the Palm Beach Daily News, the package turned
out to be an electronic plaque commemorating the assassination of President
Abraham Lincoln by John Wilkes Booth.

`Thursday night,
Fluke appeared on MSNBC’s “The Ed Show,” calling Limbaugh’s comments “outside the
bounds of civil discourse.”

CNSNews.com) – Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius told a House panel Thursday that a reduction in the number of human beings born in the United States will compensate employers and insurers for the cost of complying with  the new HHS mandate that will require all health-care plans to cover sterilizations and all FDA-approved contraceptives, including those that cause abortions.

“The reduction in the number of pregnancies compensates for the cost of contraception,” Sebelius said. She went on to say the estimated cost is “down not up.”

 Sebelius took questions from the House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Health about President Barack Obama’s fiscal year 2013 budget proposal.

 Because the Catholic church teaches that sterilization, contraception or abortion are wrong and that Catholics must not be inolved in them, the regulation forces Catholics–and members of other religious denominations that share those views–to act against the teachings of their faith. Numerous lawsuits have already been asserting that the rule violates the First Amendment’s guarantee to the free exercise of religion. Many of the nation’s Catholic bishops have published letters saying: “We cannot–we will not–comply with this unjust law.”

 Sebelius, however, insisted that the mandate “upholds religious liberty.”

“The rule which we intend to promulgate in the near future around implementation will require insurance companies, not a religious employer, but the insurance company to provide coverage for contraceptives,” Sebelius told the subcommittee.

 The Catholic bishops have called for the regulation to be rescinded in its entirety, so that no employer, insurer or individual is forced to act against his or her conscience.

 During the subcommittee hearing, Rep. Tim Murphy (R-Pa.) said that contraception provided by insurance companies to people employed by religious organizations under the future form of the rule Sebelius described would not be was not free.

 “Who pays for it? There’s no such thing as a free service,” Murphy asked.

 Sebelius responded that that is not the case with insurance.

 “The reduction in the number of pregnancies compensates for cost of contraception,” Sebelius answered.

 Murphy expressed surprise by the answer.

 “So you are saying, by not having babies born, we are going to save money on health care?” Murphy asked.

 Sebelius replied, “Providing contraception is a critical preventive health benefit for women and for their children.”

 Murphy again sought clarification.

 “Not having babies born is a critical benefit. This is absolutely amazing to me. I yield back,” he said.

 Sebelius responded, “Family planning is a critical health benefit in this country, according to the Institute of Medicine.”

 Rep. Brett Guthrie (R-Ky.), a member of the subcommittee, said after the hearing that if mandating contraception saves money there shouldn’t be a need for a mandate.

 “Their argument is this: Health insurance companies will offer it for free because they make money. You reduce the number of people getting pregnant therefore you reduce the cost of pregnancy, or low birth weight pregnancies or other kind of pregnancies,” Guthrie told CNSNews.com.

 “If you think about it, why don’t health insurance companies provide it now if the argument is health insurance companies are going to make a lot of money? If the health insurance companies were really acting in their own best interest, they would be giving these pills out for free, if it really saved money,” Guthrie added.

 Despite the controversy over whether the mandate is constitutional, Sebelius told Rep. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) during the hearing that the administration never sought a legal opinion about the regulation from the Department of Justice.
