DETROIT (WJBK) – A Pontiac mother was in court Tuesday after police say she left her two young children in the car so she could go gambling.
27-year-old Clelie Choute of Pontiac was charged in Detroit with second degree child abuse. She’s accused of leaving her two-year-old son and four-month old daughter unattended in the parking garage of MGM Grand Saturday night.
Defense attorney Christina McPhail said Choute is being treated for ovarian cancer and she’s having financial problems.
“She’s not only gainfully employed with a financial firm in Detroit, but she recently got a promotion, which she was hoping would help with the difficulties her family is facing,” said McPhail.
Police said her desperation put her children in danger.
The children are now in the custody of their father.
The judge set her bond at $100,000 at ten percent and ordered her to have no contact with her children.
