  • Hillary Clinton on Monday chaired a panel discussion at Columbia University about the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights
  • She was interrupted by anti-war activist Robert Castle, who for over three minutes refused to sit down and ranted about funding for Israel and Ukraine
  • Castle yelled he wanted to ‘exercise my freedom of speech’: Clinton retorted ‘it’s not free speech when you are disrupting everybody else’s opportunity to speak’ 

Hillary Clinton scolded a far-left protestor who interrupted her speech at Columbia University on Monday night who was heckling her for three minutes over President Joe Biden‘s funding of Israel and Ukraine.

Clinton was on stage in New York as part of a panel discussion to mark the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

The former Secretary of State was joined by Michelle Bachelet, the former UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and former president of Chile, and journalist Maria Ressa, winner of the Nobel Peace Prize for her work with Filipino investigative news website Rappler.

Clinton was speaking when activist Robert Castle stood up and began berating her. Castle – who describes himself on Substack as an ‘independent researcher, disillusioned optimist’ – was praised by far-left peace activist and anti-nuclear campaigner Diane Sare, who challenged Chuck Schumer for his New York seat in the Senate in 2020, and will challenge Kirsten Gillibrand for hers in 2024.

Sare wrote on Twitter: ‘Excellent job by another person on my team!’

Castle asked a question, and when Clinton attempted to move on, Castle continued speaking.

‘I’m sorry,’ he said, as he continued talking over her.

‘Well, I’m not sorry – you sit down,’ she said.

‘I know you’re not sorry: that’s the point,’ Castle continued. ‘The hypocrisy of this speech.’

Clinton attempted to move the panel on to talking with another of the panelists, Frank Mugisha, a Ugandan LGBTI rights advocate.

But Castle would not let him speak.

‘Can you please make a statement about President Joe Biden’s speech. This is clearly a warmongering speech. President Joe Biden is calling for $100 billion of funding for Israel, Taiwan, and Ukraine, and we’re just supposed to bundle these together and rush to World War Three,’ Castle said.

Dead’ Russian commander Viktor Sokolov seen on video after Ukraine claimed to have killed him

A new video was released Tuesday showing the commander of the country’s Black Sea Fleet attending a video conference — a day after Ukrainian special forces claimed it had killed him in a missile strike.

In video and photographs quietly put out by the Russian Ministry of Defense, Admiral Viktor Sokolov appears to be remotely taking part in a meeting with Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu and other top military brass.

The video was shown on Russian state television and reported on by the state-controlled news agencies TASS and Interfax, neither of which provided any information on when or where the footage depicting Sokolov was taken.

In response to the defense ministry’s purported “proof of life” video depicting Sokolov, Ukraine’s special forces said in a social media post Tuesday that it was clarifying information “regarding the destruction of the commander.”

“Since the Russians were urgently forced to publish a response with a seemingly living Sokolov — our units are clarifying the information,” the statement shared on Telegram read. “This is taking place as part of the procedure of collecting data on the results of the operation.”

The post also noted that some of the victims of the strike have not yet been identified because their bodies were in pieces.

Kyiv’s military said Monday it had killed Sokolov — one of Russia’s most senior naval commanders — along with 33 other officers in an attack Friday on the headquarters of Russia’s Black Sea Fleet in the port of Sevastopol that also injured 105 personnel.

Earlier Tuesday, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov had declined to comment on the Ukrainian claim, referring reporters to the defense ministry.

“No, there has been no information from the Ministry of Defense,” Peskov told reporters when asked to weigh in on Sokolov’s reported death. “This is exclusively their prerogative. We have got nothing to say here.”

Russia’s military confirmed the strike on the naval headquarters and initially said one serviceman was killed, but later claimed the person was missing.

Canada Honors Zelensky and Nazi SS Soldier

Ukraine has always been full of Nazis.

The speaker of Canada’s Parliament [above, left] has issued an apology after heaping praise on a former Waffen SS soldier, leading to the individual being feted with applause in the chamber by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau last week.

Speaker Anthony Rota introduced 98-year-old Yaroslav Hunka during a special session at Parliament Hill on Friday attended by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, describing “Ukrainian hero, Canadian hero” Hunka as one who had “fought [for] Ukrainian independence against the Russians” in the Second World War. Having done so, the chamber came to its feet — including Zelensky and Trudeau — and gave sustained applause with whooping cheers, twice.

Yet Hunka was quickly identified as a former member of the 14th Waffen Grenadier Division of the SS (1st Galician), a notorious paramilitary formation which the Polish ambassador to Canada said on Sunday was “responsible for murdering thousands of Poles & Jews”.

Zelensky being seen applauding an SS volunteer is awkward for his nation’s cause, given the energy devoted by Russian propagandists to portray the Kyiv government as being the descendants of Second World War-era Ukrainian fascists. Russia tells its own people the purpose of what they euphemistically call their ‘special military operation’ is the ‘Denazification’ of Ukraine.

Despite using his prominent platform as speaker of the house to bring attention to Hunka, who he also said was a resident of his own electoral district, Rota has now pleaded ignorance as to who Hunka actually was. Calling the oversight “entirely my own”, Rota said he had “subsequently become aware of more information which causes me to regret my decision”.

Rota said calling attention to Hunka was entirely his own decision and “no one, including fellow parliamentarians and the Ukraine delegation” was aware of what he was going to do in advance. “I accept full responsibility for my actions”, he said, and Trudeau’s office has denied foresight.

The remarkable failure of due diligence came as even a casual knowledge of the European theatre of the Second World War would have flagged a member of the “First Ukainian Division” as being worthy of a second look before being celebrated.

Despite speaker Rota moving to take full responsibility, the leader of the Canadian Conservative opposition party Pierre Polievre alleged liberal Prime Minister Trudeau himself was more involved than initially revealed. Polievre wrote that: “Trudeau personally met with and honoured a veteran of the 14th Waffen Grenadier Division of the SS (a Nazi division)” and was involved in the process to have Rota recognised on the floor.

Polievre claimed: “This is an appalling error in judgement on the part of Justin Trudeau, whose personal protocol office is responsible for arranging and vetting all guests and programming for state visits of this kind… Mr. Trudeau must personally apologize and avoid passing the blame to others as he always does.”

The Waffen-SS was a paramilitary fighting force of the NSDAP, which was led by the ideologically most devoted Nazis in the Second World War. As well as units manned by party-loyal ethnic Germans, it also created volunteer corps, divisions, brigades, and legions recruited from foreign nations and collaborationists. Some of these groups became notorious for being among the most brutal Nazi units and many were executed after the war.

The Canadian Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center said of the brewing controversy over the Nazi volunteer being honored in parliament that this act ignored “the horrific fact that Hunka served in the 14th Waffen Grenadier Division of the SS, a Nazi military unit whose crimes against humanity during the Holocaust are well-documented”.

Their statement said: “The fact that a veteran who served in a Nazi military unit was invited to and given a standing ovation in Parliament is shocking. At a time of rising antisemitism and Holocaust distortion, it is incredibly disturbing to see Canada’s Parliament rise to applaud an individual who was a member of a unit in the Waffen-SS, a Nazi military branch responsible for the murder of Jews and others and that was declared a criminal organization during the Nuremberg Trials. There should be no confusion that this unit was responsible for the mass murder of innocent civilians with a level of brutality and malice that is unimaginable.”

Rota responded to their call for an apology in his own statement Monday, saying: “I particularly want to extend my deepest apologies to Jewish communities in Canada and around the world.”

Biden Orders Additional 3,000 Troops to Fight For Ukraine

Joe Biden Authorizes Activation of up to 3,000 Reserve Troops for Operation Atlantic Resolve, Including 450 Individual Ready Reserves

On Thursday, Joe Biden issued an Order to “augment the active Armed Forces of the United States for the effective conduct of Operation Atlantic Resolve” to include up to 3,000 members of the Selected Reserve, with up to 450 members of the Individual Ready Reserve (IRR).  Meanwhile, our border remains open with over a hundred thousand arrests made last month alone by overworked US Border Patrol and other law enforcement officials.

The IRR is particularly interesting as it hasn’t been utilized in almost two decades.  This Order does not call them to service but only gives authority to do so if “they deem necessary”  The IRR consists of former active duty and reserve members who are no longer under obligation to drill, conduct annual training, or participate in any military activities until ordered by Presidential Authority.  Essentially, it is junior enlisted officers who have an obligation after leaving their service once their contract has expired.  Typically, a contract would be four years followed by four years of IRR service.

By the authority vested in me as President by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, including sections 121 and 12304 of title 10, United States Code, I hereby determine that it is necessary to augment the active Armed Forces of the United States for the effective conduct of Operation Atlantic Resolve in and around the United States European Command’s area of responsibility.  In furtherance of this operation, under the stated authority, I hereby authorize the Secretary of Defense, and the Secretary of Homeland Security with respect to the Coast Guard when it is not operating as a service in the Navy, under their respective jurisdictions, to order to active duty any units, and any individual members not assigned to a unit organized to serve as a unit of the Selected Reserve, or any member in the Individual Ready Reserve mobilization category and designated as essential under regulations prescribed by the Secretary concerned, not to exceed 3,000 total members at any one time, of whom not more than 450 may be members of the Individual Ready Reserve, as they deem necessary, and to terminate the service of those units and members ordered to active duty.

This order is not intended to, and does not, create any right or benefit, substantive or procedural, enforceable at law or in equity by any party against the United States, its departments, agencies, or entities, its officers, employees, or agents, or any other person.

Obama Starts another War and Not a Word from the Anti-War Crowd

WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama said Friday he’s dispatching roughly 100 U.S. troops to central Africa to help battle the Lord’s Resistance Army, which the administration accuses of a campaign of murder, rape and kidnapping children that spans two decades. In a letter to Congress, Obama said the troops will act as advisers in efforts to hunt down rebel leader Joseph Kony but will not engage in combat except in self-defense. The White House said the first troops arrived in Uganda on Wednesday. Ultimately, they’ll also deploy in South Sudan, the Central African Republic and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Long considered one of Africa’s most brutal rebel groups, the Lord’s Resistance Army began its attacks in Uganda more than 20 years ago but has been pushing westward. The administration and human rights groups say its atrocities have left thousands dead and have put as many as 300,000 Africans to flight. They have charged the group with seizing children to bolster its ranks of soldiers and sometimes forcing them to become sex slaves. Kony is wanted by the International Criminal Court under a 2005 warrant for crimes against humanity in his native Uganda. Obama’s announcement came in low-key fashion — a letter to House Speaker John Boehner in which he said the deployment “furthers U.S. national security interests and foreign policy and will be a significant contribution toward counter-LRA efforts in central Africa.” The deployment drew support from Sen. James Inhofe, R-Okla., who has visited the region. “I have witnessed firsthand the devastation caused by the LRA, and this will help end Kony’s heinous acts that have created a human rights crisis in Africa,” he said in a statement. “I have been fervently involved in trying to prevent further abductions and murders of Ugandan children, and today’s action offers hope that the end of the LRA is in sight.” But Obama’s letter stressed the limited nature of the deployment. “Our forces will provide information, advice and assistance to select partner nation forces,” it said. “Although the U.S. forces are combat-equipped, they will … not themselves engage LRA forces unless necessary for self-defense.” State Department officials portrayed the deployment as part of a larger strategy to combat the group that dates to the Bush administration but also includes legislation passed by Congress this year. Victoria Nuland, a department spokeswoman, said the U.S. troops will aid in “pursuing the LRA and seeking to bring top commanders to justice.” The broader effort includes encouraging rebel fighters to defect, disarm and return to their homes, she said.
