Turkey Coup Fake? Clinton’s And Washington In Bed With Turkey

A Syrian government newspaper says the failed coup in Turkey was fabricated and aimed at tarnishing the reputation of the military.

The daily Al-Thawra said Sunday that the attempted coup was a plot by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to “avenge the military and strip it of its remaining popular support.”

It said police loyal to Erdogan “deliberately humiliated” the army in front of the people.

Erdogan is a strong backer of the insurgents trying to remove President Bashar Assad from power in neighboring Syria. The Syrian government views the rebels as terrorists.

Here’s one outcome of the Turkish coup attempt that you can bet on: Washington lobbyists will be getting rich off it.

The Podesta Group, a firm with close ties to Bill and Hillary Clinton, registered in May to lobby for the “Alliance for Shared Values.” That comically named organization supports Fethullah Gulen, the Pennsylvania-based imam that the Turkish president, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, blames, rightly or wrongly, for the coup.

The extensive web of ties between Gulen, his supporters, and the Clintons has been amply documented by Chuck Ross of the Daily Caller. Gulen allies gave money to the Hillary Clinton campaign and to the Clinton Global Initiative, as well as between $500,000 and $1 million to the Clinton Foundation. Gulen’s supporters have also been operating a charter school network, which “60 Minutes” and others allege may be designed to funnel U.S. taxpayer money back to his supporters in Turkey.

Hillary Clinton has been out on the campaign trail calling for overturning the Supreme Court’s Citizen’s United decision to end what she calls “the stranglehold of wealthy special interests in Washington.” Meanwhile, her non-profit foundation is going around vacuuming up millions of dollars in donations from individuals and entities that have an interest in her policies. It’s an outrageously brazen and hypocritical act of crookedness even by Clinton standards.

Getting less attention, but just as newsworthy, is that Erdogan’s government has also been spreading money around American politics.

Last month, Turkey’s embassy in Washington hired a former communications director for Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich, Thomas Blank, according to a Foreign Agents Registration Act filing with the Department of Justice. Turkey also earlier this year hired the firm of a former Republican congressman from Minnesota, Vin Weber, for $20,000 a month for consulting services “relating to its investigation into Fethullah Gulen and his organization in the United States.” Turkey’s embassy in Washington also earlier this year hired the Gephardt group, led by former House Majority Leader Richard Gephardt, for a fee of $1.7 million for 11 months work. And it spent $600,000 on a yearlong contract with a Washington firm for legal advice and representation aimed at getting Gulen extradited to Turkey from America.

Mr. Gephardt — a registered foreign agent of Turkey with (did we mention it?) a $1.7 million, 11 month lobbying contract for Erdogan’s increasingly brutal Islamist government — will be a Clinton superdelegate to the Democratic National Convention, is a Clinton campaign donor, and is a member of an official Clinton campaign “leadership council” for the state of Missouri.

The political conflict in Turkey creates what the author Peter Schweizer calls a “double milker” situation. The politicians and former politicians-turned-lobbyists in Washington are able to collect legal or lobbying fees, campaign contributions, or “charitable donations” — to use the term very loosely — from both sides of the issue. In this case, Clinton is fundraising from both allies of Gulen and allies of Erdogan.

No one — except perhaps Mrs. Clinton herself, with her nonsense about the “stranglehold of wealthy special interests” — wants to prevent countries or individuals from arguing their case in Washington. That’s what the First Amendment rights of speech and petition are all about.

But even so, you’ve got to wonder: What does Erdogan think he’s getting for that $1.7 million, or what do the Gulen supporters think they are getting for their fees to Podesta and their donation to the Clinton Foundation? It would be nice if a President Clinton would set our policy in Turkey based on what is in American interests, or even, for that matter, on some combination of American interests and American values. By American values, though, I mean freedom, democracy, and rule of law, not enrichment-by-influence-peddling.

Students and faculty at the University of Mississippi are expressing disgust with the university’s Chancellor for offering condolences to the Dallas shooting victims without mentioning other recent shootings.

At a forum hosted Monday by the Center for Inclusion and Cross Cultural Engagement, students and faculty gathered to reflect on and discuss the deaths of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile, with several attendees taking the opportunity to complain that the administration has been insufficiently sympathetic with respect to those incidents.

The Daily Mississippian reports that one student brought up a tweet made by UM Chancellor Jeff Vitter the night of the attack in Dallas, which read “Ole Miss hearts heavy with the news of the tragedy in Dallas. Sending our thoughts and our prayers.”

In a post on his official blog two days before the forum, however, Chancellor Vitter also alluded to the tragic events that occurred throughout the nation in recent weeks, saying “we mourn for everyone” without mentioning any specific incidents. […]

“I honestly feel as if Vitter does not understand what inclusiveness means,” Ole Miss student Tinecia Francis complained with apparent sincerity during the forum. “His team told us to go look at his blog, but we should not have to do that because he should not have said it.”

Students were not the only ones who were outraged by Chancellor Vitter’s lack of acknowledgement of the events occurring throughout the country.

Sociology faculty member Jamie Nelms asserted that Chancellor Vitter’s tweet was misdirected, arguing that he should also have addressed the events in Orlando, Baton Rouge, and Minnesota.

“Nothing was said about Orlando ever from him and he makes an after-the-fact statement on his blog,” Nelms said during the forum. “Why was nothing said about Orlando? Why was nothing said immediately after these two events?”

In addition to chastising Vitter for his purportedly insensitive tweet, forum participants also discussed the role of “white supremacy” in fomenting racial tensions.

Allen Coon, President of the UM College Democrats and an African American studies major, vehemently blamed “white supremacy” for recent racial tensions and violence, saying, “You realize your enemy is not racism, it’s white supremacy because that’s killing black and brown bodies every day.”

Coon went on to insinuate that “white denial” has had a hand in escalating racial divisions both nationally and within the university community, event declaring that “my body is a weapon by which I will destroy white supremacy” in a tweet posted after the forum.

“This country was built on white denial. This university was built on white denial and white supremacy,” Coon told Campus Reform. “It needs to become borderline obsessive. Ask yourself everyday, ‘what can I do with my body to destroy white supremacy?’ Because I’m not free until everybody’s free.”

Dog starve to death by Former NFL player Terrence Cody

Former NFL player Terrence Cody has been sentenced to nine months in jail for a string of misdemeanors including starving a dog to death.

The sportsman took his Canary Mastiff, Taz, which was severely malnourished to an animal hospital close to his home in Reisterstown, Maryland, in January last year.

The dog, which had lost half its weight, died just hours later.

Cody, 27, who played for the Ravens from 2010 to 2014, was found guilty of misdemeanor charges in November 2015, but was acquitted of the more serious felony charges of animal cruelty and sentenced last week.

Prosecutors claimed the case was one of animal torture by starvation, but Judge Judith C. Ensor said she did not believe the former NFL player had intentionally tortured Taz.

To secure a conviction for the cruelty charges prosecutors would have had to prove Cody intentionally tortured his dog, People reported.

Adam Lippe, who prosecuted the case, said Cody did not feed his dog for ‘a minimum of four weeks’ but possibly ‘up to ten’.

‘The vet did an autopsy and there was nothing wrong with the dog. This was a 100 percent starvation case,’ he added.

Cody allegedly kept Taz in his garage where he was surrounded by his own excrement and urine.

After the dog began to shed its intestine lining, because he was starving, its crate was also covered in blood.

Mr Lippe described the cage where Taz was held in Cody’s garage as a ‘house of horrors’.

The prosecutor said he was happy with the sentence of nine months, but remained puzzled as to why the neglect took place.

‘I can’t explain to you why he decided to kill this animal,’ Mr Lippe told the Baltimore Sun. ‘It makes no sense at all.’

Cody’s lawyer, Joe Murtha, said that the dog was kept in the garage because it was thought he had worms.

Mr Murtha said the case was clearly one of neglect, rather than intentional torture as his client had taken his pet to the vet and cried when told the prognosis.

Cody, who was also sentenced for drug offences, will be held at Baltimore County Detention Center in Towson.

He has additionally been sentenced to an 18 month probationary period, during which time he will not be barred from owning an animal

Cody’s girlfriend, Kourtney J. Kelley, 28, was also found implicated in the animal neglect case and jailed for 60 days.

Officials at the Cause of Action Institute, a nonprofit government oversight group, are seeking documents they believe may show the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is withholding vital information about the Dallas shooter from the public.

“Statements about the shootings by President Obama and DHS Secretary Jeh Johnson raise questions about the DHS role in responding to the Dallas shooting and whether there is information about the shooter being withheld from the public,” said the group’s president and CEO, former federal judge Alfred J. Lechner, in a statement.

“Because Secretary Johnson appears to be the first public official to confirm that only one shooter existed, it raises questions as to what extent DHS was involved during the aftermath of the shooting and why local authorities were not first in alerting the public.”

“Additionally, discrepancies between statements by President Obama and the Dallas police chief raise concerns that there may be additional information about the motives of the gunman that are being withheld from the public by the Obama administration,” Lechner continued.

Dallas Police Chief David Brown initially said multiple suspects were involved on July 8 and that three were taken into custody, but the DHS secretary contradicted those reports later that day, announcing Micah Johnson acted alone.

“Johnson was the first public official to announce that the gunman was a sole actor,” the group’s FOIA request says, citing a Weekly Standard article. “Because Secretary Johnson appears to be the first public official to confirm that only one shooter existed, it raises questions as to what extent DHS was involved during the aftermath of the shooting and why local authorities were not first in alerting the public.”

Obama said the gunman’s motives were unclear, while Brown said the shooter “was upset about the recent police shootings … and he wanted to kill white people, especially white officers.

“The discrepancy between the two statements raises concerns that there may be additional information about the motives of the gunman that are being withheld from the public by the Obama Administration,” Cause of Action Institute said in its FOIA request.

The group seeks July 7 communication records for the DHS Office of the Secretary and the DHS Office for State and Local Enforcement sent to or received from the Executive office of the President, the Dallas police department, the Dallas Mayor’s office, the Texas Governor’s office and the Department of Justice.

Cause of Action Institute is also seeking internal communications records from the two DHS offices regarding the Dallas shooter, as well as all records regarding the gunman since January 1, 2015.

Iowa Church Files Lawsuit Over Damn Transgender Men In Women’s Restrooms

The Fort Des Moines Church of Christ said the commission is violating the church’s freedom of religion with its interpretation of the Iowa Civil Rights Act.

The 32-page lawsuit seeks to strike down as unconstitutional a portion of a 2007 Iowa law that could apply transgender bathroom rules to churches.

The Fort Des Moines Church of Christ filed the lawsuit on Monday against the Iowa Civil Rights Commission seeking to keep the state from enforcing rules allowing biological males who identify as women to use women’s bathrooms and showers and the same for females identifying as men.

The commission has said the state law sometimes applies to churches, which the church says would be a violation of its constitutional rights of free speech and freedom of religion.

“The Iowa Civil Rights Commission is essentially marching right into the church and directing how Fort Des Moines must use its own facilities. It is an astonishingly unprecedented government overreach,” said Christiana Holcomb, of the Alliance Defending Freedom for Faith, for Justice.

Tom Conley is an Iowa Civil Rights commissioner. He said the commission was just doing its job and following the law and his personal feeling is this is an issue that can be resolved.

“I think there is room for compromise and I don’t think we’ve really had that. On one hand, we have people who believe their religious rights are being violated.  On the other hand, there is a perception people who are transgender, gay, or lesbian are trying if you will — to cram it down the throat of people who aren’t,” said Conley.

Conley suggests a third gender neutral bathroom could be the solution.

Donna Red Wing is the executive director for One Iowa, which advocates for LGBTQ.

She said there is a legal line the church has crossed.

“If they are involved in a bonafide religious activity they are exempt. If they are offering public accommodation that could be a camp open to all kids, could be a food pantry. If they receive funds from local, state, or federal government that takes them out of the bonafide religious activity into public accommodation,” said Red Wing.

Obama Says Hillary Clinton Is More Qualified Than Any Candidate

President Obama repeated his claim Tuesday that no candidate has ever been more qualified to be President of the United States than Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton.

Obama endorsed his former secretary of state last month, and Tuesday’s rally in Charlotte, North Carolina, marked his first joint appearance with her on the campaign trail. Earlier in the day, FBI Director James Comey gave a scathing statement about Clinton’s private email conduct at the State Department, calling her “extremely careless” with classified material although not recommending charges be brought.

Obama took a shot at Clinton’s prospective opponent, Republican Donald Trump, saying anybody can “tweet” but “nobody actually knows what it takes to do the job until you’ve sat behind the desk.”

“Hillary Clinton has been tested,” Obama said. “She has seen up close what’s involved in making those decisions. She has participated in the meetings in whose decisions have been made. She’s seen the consequences of things working well and things not working well, and there has never been any man or woman more qualified for this office than Hillary Clinton. Ever. And that’s the truth. That’s the truth.”

The crowd chanted “Hillary” in approval.

“So the bottom line is I know Hillary can do the job,” Obama said. “And that’s why I am so proud, North Carolina, to endorse Hillary Clinton as the next President of the United States.”
