Ellen defends excluding gospel singer: Christian values not ‘inclusive’
Pharrell Williams appeared on NBC’s Ellen Show on Thursday as scheduled, but she had chosen a different performer. Ellen DeGeneres held to her decision to refuse Kim Burrell from being a featured guest on the show. Although both Ellen and Pharrell attempted to dampen the controversy of their decision, they failed to be authentically inclusive.
The song featuring Kim Burrell, “I see victory,” was originally scheduled to be performed on the Ellen show. After the decision to replace her song, Pharrell chose a different song — that no one cares about– from his soundtrack, in order to keep to the original format.
“She was doing a Facebook Live, and she said some very not nice things about homosexuals,” Ellen explained after Pharrell’s performance. So, I did not feel that it was good of me to have her on the show and give her a platform after she is saying things about me.”
Let’s break this down.
Ellen has never met Kim Burrell. Because Ellen has chosen to be openly gay, she is choosing to take Ms. Burrell’s statement as a direct attack. Ms. Burrell has shown no evidence of acting in a discriminatory manner toward anyone.
“There is no room for prejudice in 2017,” Pharrell chimes in. “There is no room. She is a fantastic singer. I love her. Just like I love everybody else. Um, and we all gotta get used to that. We all gotta get used to, um, everyone’s differences and understand that this is a big, beautiful, colorful world. And, it only works with inclusion and empathy.”
Pharrell fails to acknowledge his exclusion of Kim Burrell and who she chooses to be, a Christian. Ellen and Pharrell refuse to empathize with Ms. Burrell because of their own personal feelings.
Ms. Burrell released a statement expressing, “Have I discriminated against them? Have I ever outright told them ‘I don’t love you’ and ‘you going to hell’?”
Pharrell tried to step back from asserting that Ms. Burrell participated in hate-speech, but alluded back to it by saying, “Whenever you see something, whenever you hear some sort of hate-speech, and you feel it does not particularly pertain to you… All you gotta to do is put the word black in that sentence, put gay in that sentence. So, put transgender in that sentence, ah, white in that sentence, and all over a sudden it begins to make sense to you… I get that some of the divisive stuff works, … but you have to choose what side you are on.”
This is essentially the Left trying to convince the general public that if you are not already offended you should find a reason to be. It is impossible to ‘choose what side you are on’ and be inclusive. Pharrell and Ellen want to assert that there is no room for prejudice, yet they conflict their message by excluding Kim Burrell in any manner. This world is diverse, but not in a way that will make the Left feel comfortable.

What happened to freedom of religion in this country. Why does “inclusive” include everything but Christians or conservatives? Ellen did to this woman, what that Christian bakery did to the gay couple. Why is it ok to discriminate towards Ms. Burrell for being Christian, but the Christian bakers lost their bakery for the same attitudes towards a gay couple. I personally don’t care if people are gay, it is not mine to judge, but I do care if they are biggoted toward me for my faith. Stand up for your faith, boycott the Ellen DeGeneres TV show and Cover girl where she’s a spokesmodel (let them know it’s because she’s anti-Christian). All of these celebrities and politicians like to talk a big game, but they sure aren’t willing to really put their money where their mouth is. Vote with your time and money, CHRISTIANS need to #BOYCOTTELLENDEGENERES because she’s anti-Christian.
