Trump Plans Military Action on Syria. Why Is This Our Business?
World View: President Trump Plans Military Action on Syria After Nerve Gas Attack on Civilians
- President Trump plans military action on Syria after horrific nerve gas attack on civilians
- President Trump declares that he’s changed his mind about military action
- Marco Rubio says Trump’s policy emboldened Bashar al-Assad
- John McCain and Lindsey Graham advocate cruise missiles and safe areas
President Donald Trump on Wednesday made it clear that he is planning some sort of action against Syria. Although he did not specify what kind of action, saying that he did not want to telegraph his plans, he did imply that military action is planned.
The change of mind was triggered by a horrific chemical nerve gas attack on Syrian civilians on Monday, indiscriminately killing dozens of people. The pictures of children being killed apparently particularly affected Trump. The nerve gas was delivered in bombs on warplanes, which could only have been warplanes from the regime of Syria’s president Bashar al-Assad. After the nerve gas attack, another missile attack struck the hospital where nerve gas attacks had been taken, effectively putting the hospital out of service. There was clearly an intent to kill as many people as possible, including women and children.
Syrian state media denied that that Syria was responsible:
The government of the Syrian Arab republic categorically denies the allegations and false accusations about the use of poisonous, chemical weapons by the Syrian Arab army in Khan Sheikhoun region against Syrian civilians who are besieged by the armed terrorist groups as human shields there, Syria also affirms that the Syrian army doesn’t possess any kind of chemical weapons and it has not used them and it won’t use them in the future.
The above statement contains known lies. Syria has provably used Sarin gas and chlorine gas in bombs in the past. No part of the above statement is credible, in view of the evidence. ARA News (Syria) and SANA (Damascus)
President Trump declares that he’s changed his mind about military action
At a news conference on Tuesday, Trump commented on Monday’s nerve gas attack in Syria, explaining why he changed his mind:
Yesterday, a chemical attack – a chemical attack that was so horrific, in Syria, against innocent people, including women, small children, and even beautiful little babies. Their deaths was an affront to humanity. These heinous actions by the Assad regime cannot be tolerate…
Well, I think the Obama administration had a great opportunity to solve this crisis a long time ago when he said the red line in the sand. And when he didn’t cross that line after making the threat, I think that set us back a long ways, not only in Syria, but in many other parts of the world, because it was a blank threat. I think it was something that was not one of our better days as a country. …
I now have responsibility, and I will have that responsibility and carry it very proudly, I will tell you that. It is now my responsibility. It was a great opportunity missed…
It crossed a lot of lines for me. When you kill innocent children, innocent babies — babies, little babies — with a chemical gas that is so lethal — people were shocked to hear what gas it was — that crosses many, many lines, beyond a red line. Many, many lines.
In 2013, Bashar al-Assad launched a Sarin gas attack against civilians, after President Barack Obama has said that doing so would “cross a red line.” At that time, Trump tweeted the following:
AGAIN, TO OUR VERY FOOLISH LEADER, DO NOT ATTACK SYRIA – IF YOU DO MANY VERY BAD THINGS WILL HAPPEN & FROM THAT FIGHT THE U.S. GETS NOTHING!
However, Trump has now reversed those sentiments, and is blaming Obama for not intervening in 2013. However, he’s not calling it “a flip-flop,” instead ascribing it to flexibility:
I like to think of myself as a very flexible person. I don’t have to have one specific way, and if the world changes, I go the same way, I don’t change. Well, I do change and I am flexible, and I’m proud of that flexibility. And I will tell you, that attack on children yesterday had a big impact on me — big impact. That was a horrible, horrible thing. And I’ve been watching it and seeing it, and it doesn’t get any worse than that.
And I have that flexibility, and it’s very, very possible — and I will tell you, it’s already happened that my attitude toward Syria and Assad has changed very much. And if you look back over the last few weeks, there were other attacks using gas. You’re now talking about a whole different level.
He says that he will not reveal his plans, but implies that the plans are military (as opposed to, say, sanctions):
Well, one of the things I think you’ve noticed about me is, militarily, I don’t like to say where I’m going and what I doing. And I watched past administrations say, we will attack at such and such a day at such and such an hour…
I watched Mosul, where the past administration was saying, we will be attacking in four months. And I said, why are they doing that? Then a month goes by, and they say, we will be attacking in three months, and then two months, and then we will be attacking next week. And I’m saying, why are they doing that? And as you know, Mosul turned out to be a much harder fight than anyone thought, and a lot of people have been lost in that fight. I’m not saying I’m doing anything one way or the other, but I’m certainly not going to be telling you, as much as I respect you, John.

Somali Migrant Killed Woman and Raped 2 Elderly Disabled Men
Somali Asylum Seeker Accused of Killing Woman and Raping Disabled Elderly Men
A Somali asylum seeker has been charged with raping two disabled men and murdering the wife of one of the victims in Germany last year.
The unnamed 18-year-old is accused of breaking into a care home in the town of Neuenhaus in October and raping a paralysed 59-year-old man.
He is then alleged to have entered an adjoining room and raped a second man before killing his 87-year-old wife when she confronted him.
Police say the migrant, who is currently being held in a psychiatric unit, killed the woman with “great force” to avoid being caught.
He was then confronted by a janitor at around 3.30am but forced his way past him before jumping out a window and fleeing the home.
The janitor told the court he was “puzzled and thought it might be a resident”, but upon asking the asylum seeker who he was he ran towards the main entrance before changing direction and using a chair to leap from a window.
Police arrived at the care home soon after and went door-to-door before finding the victims lying in a pool of blood. The suspect was later arrested at his home, with police finding damp trainers and clothes in his closet.
Grafschafter Nachrichten reports the migrant was in an “alcoholic state” at the time of the attack and may have had a history of mental illness.
Germany has witnessed a series of concerning incidents involving migrants since the start of the migrant crisis.
In December, police arrested a 17-year-old asylum seeker on suspicion of raping and murdering a student after his DNA was found at the crime scene.
The victim was found dead two months previously after having been drowned, with news of the arrest leading to many people saying an ironic “thank you” to Chancellor Angela Merkel for her open-door immigration policy.
Police union chief Rainer Wendt said the killing could have been prevented. “We wouldn’t have this victim, and so many others, if our country had been better prepared for the dangers that always go along with massive immigration,” he said.

GFP Mooslim Terror Attack in Russia Kills 10, Injures 50
Two attackers on the run as images emerge of first ‘terror suspect’ accused of planting a nail bomb which ripped through carriages on St Petersburg metro killing at least ten and injuring 50
- The horrific blast occurred between Sennaya Ploshchad and Sadovaya train station in St Petersburg, Russia
- Ambulances raced to the scene of the carnage caused by a nail bomb which was detonated on the network
- Metro officials reported blast was from an improvised explosive device on board which included shrapnel
- At least 10 people are reported to have been killed by the blast and 50 including children have been injured
- Nobody has claimed responsibility, but previous attacks on Russia have been blamed on ISIS and Chechens
Police are hunting two suspected terrorists accused of planting explosive devices in St Petersburg metro stations – one of which detonated in a train killing at least ten and injuring 50 today.
Several Russian media outlets have released the CCTV picture of the bearded suspect who was wearing a long, black top and a hat blamed for caused the carnage by detonating a bomb that was packed with shrapnel.
The terrifying incident took place on a train that was travelling between Sennaya Ploshchad and Sadovaya metro stations. A second explosive device disguised as a fire extinguisher was found and defused in a nearby station.
Nobody has claimed responsibility for the explosion, but previous attacks on Russia have been blamed on ISIS and Chechens.
A search warrant has now been issued for two people in connection with the attack – one for planting the bomb which detonated at Sennaya Ploshchad and the other for leaving an explosive device at Ploshchad Revolutsii station.
A source said: ‘Two people are being sought on suspicion of planning the blasts, one of whom is thought to have placed the explosive device in the metro wagon and the second person for leaving a bomb at the metro station Ploshchad Revolutsii.’
Dozens have been injured, including at least three children, as it was reported the man left a briefcase on a train before moving carriages moments before the deadly blast.
Bloodied passengers were left strewn across the platform in the Russian city as emergency services scrambled to save those wounded by the bomb and the resulting shards of glass and twisted metal.
Vladimir Putin is in his hometown of St Petersburg today for talks with the president of Belarus and confirmed ‘there are dead and injured’, offering his condolences to the families of those killed.
The Kremlin leader, who wanted to visit the scene in the aftermath of the attack but was held back by security services, said: ‘I have already spoken to the head of our special services, they are working to ascertain the cause of the blasts.
‘The causes are not clear, it’s too early. We will look at all possible causes, terrorism as well as common crime.’
Interfax news agency cited an unidentified source who says the suspect in Monday’s blast might have left the explosive device in a bag.
Russian online news outlet Fontanka published the grainy photo which shows a middle-aged man who entered Petrogradskaya station 20 minutes before the blast.
Interfax news agency earlier quoted a source as saying that surveillance cameras had captured photos of the blast suspect.
At this stage it is not clear whether or not the suspect was wearing the hat and gown as a disguise.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov denied earlier speculation that President Putin was due to pass by the Sennaya Metro station around the time of the blast.
The explosion happened between the Sennaya Ploshchad station and Tekhnologichesky Institut at around 2.40pm local time, Russia’s National Anti-Terrorism Committee said.
A witnesses told Russia’s Life News: ‘People were bleeding, their hair burned. We were told to move to the exit, because the movement stopped. People just fled.
‘My girlfriend was in the next car that exploded. She said that he began to shake. When she came out, she saw that people were mutilated.’
A male eyewitness said: ‘It’s just like a war here. Every special service is here, the FSB, police, and multiple – really a lot of them – ambulances.
‘I don’t think I’ve ever seen to many paramedics in my life. Something completely horrible is happening here.’
Eight bodies were recovered from the carriage while two more were found on the platform or were in the tunnel.
Earlier reports indicated a backpack had been thrown onto the train and witnesses also suggested there had been multiple explosions, but officials confirmed just the one blast.
Russian security agencies did find an explosive device at a different metro station in central St Petersburg and made it safe, the National Anti-Terrorist Committee said in a statement.
The device was found at the Ploshchad Vosstaniya metro station, a different location from where a blast earlier took place.
Other witnesses also described a man leaving a briefcase on one carriage before moving to another just seconds before the huge explosion.
As reports of the suspected terror attack trickled through to the capital, Moscow heightened its security and local reports suggest three metro stations – Nagatinskaja, Savelovskaya and Ugrezhskaya (CIP) – were cordoned off due to suspicious packages.
The leader of the Kremlin is visiting the city today and is expected to hold talks with the Belarusian president later in the day.
Sennaya Ploshad is one of the Russian city’s main metro stations, where three underground lines connect.
It is beneath the large ‘Sennaya’ shopping centre as well as the offices of Gazprombank, Russia’s third largest bank.
The St Petersburg metro said in a statement carried by Russian news agencies that it has closed two stations, Technological Institute and Sennaya Ploshchad – two neighbouring stations on one line – and is evacuating all passengers.
‘Evacuation of passengers is ongoing, there are people injured,’ it said.
‘An unidentified object supposedly blew up in a (train) carriage.’
Following the reports, the Moscow metro also announced that it is ‘taking additional security measures’ as required by law in such situations, according to the network’s official Twitter account.

ISIS Throws Gay Man From Roof But Gays Protest at Ivanka’s House
Graphic Photos: Islamic State Throws Iraqi Man Accused of Homosexuality from Rooftop
The Islamic State organization recently published pictures of the “sentencing” of a man suspected of homosexuality.
The organization’s headquarters in Iraq’s Nineveh district said in a statement that it carried out the provisions of Shariah Islamic law against men who are guilty of “the transgression of homosexuality.”
In the pictures (see above and below), an IS gunman is seen reading out the “indictment” to a crowd of bystanders and IS activists, after which a “defendant” was thrown to his death from a nearby rooftop.
Nineveh is the district in which the battle of Mosul is taking place, pitting IS forces against the Iraqi army and troops of the US-led international coalition.
The man’s “crime” was likely committed in the city where IS is fighting to keep its foothold in the wake of six months of bloody fighting.
However, IS’ propaganda organ insists on showing that it is unfazed by the offensive, and remains committed to spreading Sharia and Islamic rule.
Simultaneously, IS disseminated pictures of the organization’s mosques and charity unit in action in the southern Syrian town of Sahmam Aliawlan, showing the activists handing out religious material, giving lessons in local mosques and renovating houses of worship.
From the city of Raqqa, where IS also struggles to fend off a US- and Russian-backed Kurdish offensive, the organization published pictures of day-to-day commercial activity. However, unlike similar campaigns in the past, the pictures did not include a plethora of patrons.
Angela Merkel Welcomes More Muslim Refugees, “Islam Not Source of Terror’
Angela Merkel says Europe must take MORE refugees and Islam ‘isn’t source of terror’
GERMAN Chancellor Angela Merkel has launched a staunch defence of her refugee policy.
The embattled leader says Europe has an obligation to take displaced people from Syria and Iraq.
She also said Islam “is not the cause of terrorism” and that combatting extremism needs the cooperation of Muslim countries.
In a wide-ranging speech at a Munich security conference, the German chief also vowed to work closely with Vladimir Putin’s Russia in the fight with ISIS in the Middle East.
Mrs Merkel has come under fire for taking in up to one million refugees amid security concerns and a string of migrant sex attacks across Germany.
After the Berlin lorry attack at a Christmas market in December, ex-UKIP leader Nigel Farage said events such as that will be “Merkel’s legacy”.
Mrs Merkel had been a strong critic of Brexit, saying she had “deep regrets” about it.
She will go to the polls in September against Social Democrat candidate Martin Schulz, the former European Parliament President.
On Putin, she said Europe’s ties with Russia remained challenging, but it was important to work with them in the fight against Islamist terrorism.
She said: “The joint fight against Islamic terrorism is one area where we have the same interests and we can work together.”
Her comments about Islam and refugees follow her criticism of Donald Trump’s travel ban on people from seven Muslim-majority countries.
New US Vice-President Mike Pence was in the audience and reaffirmed the US’ commitment to NATO in a speech of his own.
Germany is under increasing pressure to increase military spending, would do “everything possible” meet a NATO target for spending two percent of economic output on defence by 2024, Merkel told the conference.
Only last week, a student was dragged into woods and raped by a migrant who spoke no English near the campus of Bochum University.
